Red Dot Pistol: Fundamentals and Performance 2-Day Course

Conroe, TX | January 9–10, 2027 | BTO Range

Course Overview

Take your red dot pistol skills beyond simply finding the dot.

The Modern Samurai Project Red Dot Pistol Fundamentals & Performance Course is a two-day, performance-focused handgun course designed for shooters who already have safe pistol handling skills and want to become more efficient, consistent, and capable with a pistol-mounted red dot.

Hosted at BTO Range and Training Center in Conroe, Texas, this course takes a practical look at how grip, body mechanics, recoil management, visual processing, trigger control, and presentation work together. Students will build skills progressively over two days, beginning with proper red dot zeroing and core shooting mechanics before moving into speed, distance, target transitions, and performance-based drills.

This is not an introductory handgun class. You do not need to be an advanced red dot shooter, but you should already be comfortable safely operating and shooting a handgun.

Instruction is led by Scott “Jedi” Jedlinski, owner and lead instructor of Modern Samurai Project and a nationally recognized instructor specializing in red dot pistol performance.

What You Will Learn

Over two days of professional firearms instruction, students will work through:

  • Properly zeroing a pistol-mounted red dot
  • Body mechanics and shooting posture
  • Grip and recoil management
  • Reading and tracking the movement of the red dot
  • Draw and presentation techniques
  • The Modern Samurai Project “Wave” Grip
  • Fitts Law principles and their application to target acquisition
  • The 3 & 2 Drill
  • Trigger control and understanding the different “walls” of the trigger
  • Accuracy, Speed, and Real modes of practice
  • Shooting at distance
  • Target transitions
  • Shape-based shooting drills
  • Black Belt Standards assessment
  • Performance review and course debrief

Students will receive a certificate and token of appreciation upon completion of the course.

Who This Course Is For

This course is designed for shooters who already understand safe handgun operation and want to improve their performance with a slide-mounted red dot pistol.

It is well suited for:

  • Responsible armed citizens
  • Concealed carriers
  • Law enforcement and armed professionals
  • Firearms instructors
  • Competitive shooters
  • Experienced handgun owners transitioning to a red dot
  • Red dot shooters looking to refine and pressure-test existing skills

You do not need to be an expert red dot shooter to attend. However, this is not a beginner handgun course. Students should arrive with established safe gun-handling skills and previous experience operating and shooting a pistol.

Whether your interest is concealed carry training, defensive handgun training, competition, or simply becoming a more capable shooter, the curriculum is designed around measurable skills that can be applied across multiple shooting disciplines.
